A loan of $10,500 helps an organic wine shop expand inventory.

Danielle's story
I was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. In 2018, I had my first real encounter with natural wine, and everything changed. What started as a personal curiosity turned into a passion I couldn't ignore. I found myself diving deep into the world of low-intervention winemaking, learning about the growers, the methods, and the stories behind each bottle. The more I explored, the more I realized that natural wine wasn't just a trend, it was a movement rooted in authenticity, sustainability, and a return to tradition.
At first, this was just a hobby. I was seeking hard to find producers and sharing bottles with friends. Over time, I started noticing something, people were excited about these wines but didn't know much about them or where to find them. There was a gap between the wines I had fallen in love with and the shelves at most of my local shops.
In 2020, I read Alice Feiring's 'Natural Wine For The People'. At the end of the book she says if you don't have a great wine shop near you and you can't find anything natural in your neighborhood, you have 3 choices. 1. Shop the best shops in the country online. 2. Start your own wine shop. 3. Move. That's when the idea for my wine shop was born.
I opened Marigold Wines with a simple mission, to make natural, organic, and low-intervention wines more accessible to my community. I wanted to create a space that felt welcoming, not intimidating. A place where people could explore, ask questions, and discover wines that are made with care and are respectful of the earth.
For me, this shop is more than wine. It's about supporting small growers, drinking thoughtfully, and creating a space where everyone feels welcome to explore and discover something new.
